Beyond Reason

for Brittney Griner

They took me.
Easy enough
when you hate beyond reason.
This chair—
was it destined
to be my fate.
In the chaos
has the world already
forgotten me.

Digby Beaumont is an English artist. His still life work raises questions of an object’s deeper significance. His portraiture looks to capture something of his subject’s inner world. His mixed-media series, I Don’t Know What Came Over Me, is a whimsical and poignant take on the theme of what it is to be human. Digby is self-taught. Before becoming an artist, he was a widely published writer. His flash fiction and short stories have appeared in more than 100 journals, magazines and anthologies, including the international anthology, The Best Small Fictions.
