WHICH WAY
By Susan Isla Tepper
Am I late
can’t tell which way
you’re going
friend or foe
Whether to turn back
or follow
to a dry grave
The sun here
like nothing I ever—
sand lodged
between my teeth
A misunderstanding
nothing to do with us
on different sides of
some phallic line
Can anyone explain
before my final courage
liquidates
down my legs
