Splendor

Languid this room
keeps sheltered
its forbidden fruit
a single pear.
The rest of the bounty
in boxes of jade and soft woods
satiny to the touch

As once you remarked about my body.
I never feel your hands

O room of salted sea breeze
clinging to cup and saucer,
Scratchy sofa, tainted
essence from peaking waves
crashing too close

Tangles the curtains— agony after
and again; tangling the sail.
Stop moving I will climb aboard!

Salt is tasted on the rim.
Smudged, wine-stained
in synch with peals
from somewhere bells.
