WALLPAPER AND CAT

The surface of the moon from floorboard rises
Halfway up the wall, while outer space
Is flat, oblique, and gleams, horizon;
The Earth, three feet across, is centerpiece.

The sun is etching in the moon’s uneven
Mounds a show of shadowy cartoons:
A horizontal Ronald Reagan
Floating in wide boxers and spittoon-

Sized shoes. His nose is shaped like Louisiana.
Pencil-necked and courtier-like he holds
A flower, pinky out. Upon a
Comforter’s metallic-green thick folds,

All the above his background, in repose
Is Ringo—eyes ablaze, fluorescent coals.
