Blue Trees
By Susan Isla Tepper
Have you ever noticed
while you stared
everything coming apart
and each time
you try filling in
some vibrant color
a hoax—
the lines keep shifting
Clouds moving slow
to speed up
Those kinds of days
blue trees
sun in sun out
a poke at happiness
that doesn’t gel—
Have you joined ranks
with the criminally insane
you could try calling it
a bad hair day
Or— look
the dictator has on lipstick
a smear left
curving the rim of the glass

Glenn Bowie is a published poet, lyricist, musician and photographer from the Boston area. He also owns and operates an elevator company that supplies custom-built elevators for clients from New England to Hollywood. Author of two poetry and photograph collections (Under the Weight of Whispers and Into the Thorns and Honey) on Big Table Publishing, he donates all profits from his books to various charities for the homeless and local animal shelters.
This is just another stunning collaboration from these two. Susan knows how to turn on that fan that loosens emotions, buried and open, that shape a woman’s walk through the world. Glenn’s photography leaves me wordless. I won’t even try to explain the gorgeousness.
Well done, you two!
