Hovering

By Susan Isla Tepper

This orange sky
I know—
the orange of
purgatory

where I’ve spent
way too much time

I need a break
I did better this time
I think I did

Well certainly
during the second half—

you have to give me that

Please no more orange
my soul will splinter–

You are setting me up
to fail
Why?
I can feel it coming close
hovering
