SCRIM

By Susan Isla Tepper

A scrim has dropped
dividing you
from this place
known half your life

Deciduous trees
sprout hallucinations
fall mums
blooming seem weak—
You know this place / You don’t

Some middle-ground
resembling uncertainty
brushes every surface
Too many to count—

Does it matter
is this death.
