TWO CHAIRS

behind this door
where carrots grow,
and unfamiliar greens
sprout in the dank.
Two chairs
you and me
Raw
gifts from a god
lost, too
in the wilderness.
Tremulous we recall
what a room should be:
Roses papered on wallboard.
Sweet elation
just wasn’t enough
to withstand crumbling brick
& collapsed roof
the enemy’s pecking order:
crows on a fence
pot-shot
To be eaten by starving strays.
