Visitation

Morbid came
I wasn’t prepared—
hungry
that gobble-wad mouth
ready to chew me
like rare steak
hardly a vein
prime—
I got so scared I
went into hiding
back of the old shed.
Jammed full.
Rusted bicycles
paint cans
past-date fertilizer.
Swarming in gnarly vines.
I clung.
Wondering.
Which morsels
will go first
making
its random feast
entrails and the rest
chucked
in the gaping stew.
