January Sky

From the late dawn, the faint light emerges,
silver stars still surround the crescent
in the cold January morning sky.

After the fanfare the quiet returns
the songs of yesterday buried within the silent snow.

Desires forsaken but upon the hungry hill a new yearning
for growth and betterment,
as life sleeps within branch and black earth,
time will pass as the dark shadows slide slowly past,
the days duel against the retreating night,
a sabre raised towards the Spring light.
