Richard W. Halperin – Inventory

Richard W. Halperin is widely published on the island of Ireland. He has collections out via Salmon and Lapwing. The late William Sloane Coffin loved this poem, so, many years later, the dedication added.

For William Sloane Coffin

The brain: dubious
The body: ludicrous
The leaders: dangerous
The idols: cancerous
The majority: porous
The experts: specious
The mad: ubiquitous
The sin: indigenous
The ignorance: bituminous
The love: miraculous
The opportunity: precious
The way: amphibious
The gains: precarious
The losses: serious
The breath: laborious
The end: obvious
The tally: inglorious
The hope: numinous
If the Sum
Be gracious.
