NOT FORSAKEN

The first night without her
I lay on the road
Until a half-drunk couple rescued me.

The second night without her
I scaled the wall of a graveyard
And lay against a headstone muttering.

The third night without her
I lay on our bed, a slab now
With hat, coat and gloves on.

Tonight I will cover myself
Thinking she will slide in beside me.
