A Dark River
By Susan Isla Tepper
Romanticizing nights
you walked across
the river Thames
gazing down
from the heights of
Westminster Bridge
A light summer breeze
the moon bright
on full display.
It’s a dark river.
Bones dredged up
centuries old
31 bodies dumped
in just the past decade.
Did they off them first
or did the person
slide in
like putting news
into a cold envelope.
