BURSTS

for Miles

It wasn’t supposed to rain today
today should have been brilliant
skies puffy against a cerulean blue
you dabbed on your canvasses
turning them into bursts of light.
You’ve been too put upon
my fault, all our faults,
we leaned on you for everything.
You didn’t say no, not one time.
Though once you came in
the back door shouting
your head felt about to burst apart.
