Mike Cullinane is a rare New Jersey native who has been writing for most of his life: post cards, letters, poetry, a brief journalism career, and spellbinding corporate presentations. He has previously contributed to The Galway Review, Failed Haiku, Sad Girl Diaries and anthologies published by Moonstone Art Center. After a moderately successful career, he spends most days as the project manager of his own life, serving friends and family when needed, while being mentored by a 2 1/2 year old.

Grandpa’s Theorems

A child’s understanding grows with understanding.

Hold my hand as we count the stairs.
Oh, did you say two and nine?!?
Tomorrow we’ll say more numbers.

Listening to jazz makes clean up easier.

When there’s a groove to it,
Toy put away is quicker.
Pick up the pieces, uh-huh!

Rucking is old school.

Grateful my body can support
A second generation on my back.
Good for the heart too.

It ain’t easy being Mom & Dad.

Grandpa telling them how to live,
The last thing they need.
The 30’s were the toughest age.

There are sign posts to reincarnation.

Corralling to safety in the playground,
A next life flash as shepherd dog,
Certain Bingo Heeler will be there.
