After the storm
The waves run
in tormented currents,
lit up now
by a rising sun,
like worms exposed
after weeks beneath
a heavy potted plant.
Negative space
I don’t need
To catch the crow,
The crow catches me.
From Dune she flies
Startling in her wingspan,
Latching onto my arm.
We walk together,
A precious pair
On a precious strand.
With the loss of friends,
Of family,
The crow and I will be
Joined in natures mystery,
This black night will hold
This white man moon.
From Foreign Lands
The sullen woman
Rarely smiles,
Yet she did for me
Twice.
She speaks
As they do
In Ukraine,
But says little.
I heard her name
Murmured to a local,
So low, so quiet
I cannot remember it.
But she beamed
A beautiful sunrise
This morning
At my question,
“Do you prefer being on the till,
Or over there?”
Pointing at the Deli.
She almost laughed.
It could have been preference
For Donbass, Kyiv,
Dublin
or Rosslare.
We are friends now.
