ON A MONDAY, ONCE A MONTH
By Martin Lyons
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll write a poem or read a book,
And forgive the ones, I once mistook,
For friends; with luck!
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
From an early rise, I’ll take a drive,
I’ll contemplate and won’t arrive,
On being alive,
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll play a tune or sing a song,
Forget the words, but carry on,
My will is strong,
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll talk much less, and listen more,
To things I haven’t known before,
Take time, explore,
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll sail a boat or climb a hill,
Abandon thoughts with freedom filled,
A thrill,
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll plant a rose near a lilac tree,
And believe its scent belongs to me,
Honestly,
On a Monday, once a month.
On a Monday once a month,
I’ll watch the sunset disappear,
Then intruding darkness, where nothing’s clear,
But fear,
On a Monday once a month.
On a Monday, once a month,
I’ll forget to laugh, forget to cry,
And look beyond the reasons why,
We all must die, I’ll try,
On a Monday, once a month.
